Clash of Clans April 2026: Everything You Need to Know About the Crafted Defense Season

Sound of Clash Season Banner

April 1st usually means pranks. This year, Clash of Clans had something far more exciting in mind. On April 1, 2026, Supercell kicked off the brand new Crafted Defense Season, and for once, it's no joke. Whether you're a war veteran who's been clashing since the beginning or someone who just unlocked Town Hall 18, this season brings some of the most interesting defense mechanics the game has ever seen. Let's walk through everything that's new, what it means for your base, and why you should be paying close attention.

The Theme: Sound of Clash

Before diving into the defenses themselves, it's worth understanding the vibe this season is going for. Clash of Clans has kicked off April 2026 with a brand new theme called "Sound of Clash," giving the game a full musical makeover for the month.

Think electric guitars, speaker stacks, punk-rock energy, and a general "the amps are cranked to eleven" attitude. It's not just cosmetic either — the theme runs through the new Gold Pass skin, the event calendar, and the general tone of the season. It's a fun departure from the more fantasy-based themes the game usually leans on.

The Big News: Phase 2 Crafted Defenses Are Here

Crafter Defenses: Roaster, Air Bombs, Lava Launcher

This is the headline. Phase 1 of the Crafted Defenses ended on March 31, 2026, and Phase 2 — which runs all the way through July 31, 2026 — launched on April 1, bringing three classic Builder Base defenses over to the Home Village as the newest Crafted Defenses for Town Hall 18. Those three defenses are the Roaster, the Air Bombs, and the Lava Launcher.

If you're new to the Crafted Defense system, here's a quick explanation of how it works. The Crafting Station is a defensive building available at the highest Town Hall level, and it can be toggled between three different defense modes. Each defense has three separate modules that can be upgraded individually — spending Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir on different aspects like hitpoints, damage output, and special effects. Defenses start at level 3 and can be upgraded all the way to level 30, with each module going from level 1 to level 10. The real power of the system is that you're essentially building a custom defense that fits your base strategy, not just upgrading a generic tower.

Note: One important thing to keep in mind, if you had ongoing Crafted Defense upgrades from Phase 1, those are automatically refunded when the new phase begins, so plan your upgrades with that in mind.

The Roaster

Roaster Defense

The Roaster blasts waves of hot plasma in a wide cone at both ground and air enemies, making it a nightmare for "spam" armies like Witch rushes that rely on throwing a lot of low-health troops at your base. Because it attacks in a cone rather than targeting a single unit, it clears out groups of weaker troops very efficiently.

At its fully maxed Level 30 state, the Roaster has a formidable 6,000 hitpoints, making it one of the tankier Crafted Defenses. To reach peak performance, you'll need to invest Dark Elixir into its "Burst Fire" module, which increases the number of plasma shots in a single burst up to 15. Think of it as the all-rounder of the three new defenses — it can handle both ground and air threats, and it shines in bases that need general crowd control.

The Air Bombs

Air Bombs Defense

The Air Bombs are pretty much exactly what they sound like, and that's a good thing. This defense fires barrels of explosives upward to knock flying units out of the sky, making it a defensive staple against even the tankiest aerial armies.

When fully maxed out, the Air Bombs sit at 6,000 HP and can deal 950 damage per hit, with the firing cooldown dropping to just 2 seconds between shots. That means a fully upgraded Air Bombs station is essentially a rapid-fire anti-air cannon that can shred through Balloon clusters and Dragon swarms before they have time to react. If air attacks have been giving your base trouble in war, this is probably the defense you'll want to prioritize.

The Lava Launcher

Lava Launcher Defense

This one is genuinely special, and a little terrifying. The Lava Launcher launches powerful molten balls of lava that deal impact damage and leave the ground scorched, inflicting a burn damage-over-time effect on any ground troops standing in the zone. That burn effect lasts for 20 seconds after impact, and multiple lava pools can stack their damage without any penalty.

Out of all the Crafted Defenses, the Lava Launcher has the highest overall range and the largest blind spot in the game at 6 tiles. That tradeoff — enormous range against a meaningful blind spot — means placement matters a great deal. You'll want it in the center of your base where it can reach almost anywhere, while using other defenses and traps to cover the area directly around it.

A fully maxed Lava Launcher can reach a maximum range of 20 tiles by investing Elixir into its Range module, making it capable of covering massive areas of your village and completely disrupting ground-based Queen Charges or Root Rider pushes. If the current meta in your league leans heavily on ground attacks, the Lava Launcher should be high on your upgrade list.

Sparky Stones and the Fancy Shop

Fancy Shop Item

Upgrading your Crafted Defenses doesn't just make your base stronger — it also earns you currency for the game's exclusive cosmetics store. Every module upgrade on a Crafted Defense earns you 8 Sparky Stones per module level. If you max out all three defenses completely, you're looking at 648 Sparky Stones total.

These stones are spent in the Fancy Shop, a dedicated rewards store accessible from the second-to-last tab in the Shop menu, and it's only visible to players who are earning Sparky Stones. The Fancy Shop stocks unique cosmetics that you can't get anywhere else — Builder Skins, decorations, and Charge Effects — making it feel more like a long-term progression reward system than a typical limited-time grind. If you're the kind of player who takes pride in customizing your village, fully upgrading your Crafted Defenses is definitely worth the effort.

The Gold Pass Skin: Punk Archer Queen

Punk Archer Queen Skin

Every month, the Gold Pass brings a new Hero skin, and April's might be one of the most memorable ones yet. This season's Gold Pass features a punk-rock Archer Queen skin that swaps her traditional bow for a crossbow shaped like an electric guitar, complete with sharp edges, a skull motif, cat-ear headphones, and dark tones with purple accents. It fits the Sound of Clash theme perfectly and is a genuinely bold cosmetic design compared to what we've seen in previous seasons.

The Gold Pass itself continues the Gold Pass 2.0 system introduced in February, which includes Daily Tasks (completing 8 tasks per day earns Stamps and Season Points), Stamp Cards that stack if you miss days so casual players aren't penalized, and Choice Nodes that let you pick between two reward options at certain milestones rather than receiving a fixed item. It's a much more player-friendly system than what came before it.

The Month's Events at a Glance

April Event Calendar

Beyond the new defenses, April has a full calendar of activities to keep things busy throughout the month.

  • Clan War Leagues: The month begins with Clan War Leagues, which return as normal. However, unlike last month, there won't be a 5v5 CWL format this time around. Standard 15v15 and 30v30 formats are still available, and the improved tied-war payout (75% of rewards for a draw, up from the previous 57%) remains in place.
  • Medal Event: This event runs from April 9 to April 29, letting players complete themed challenges and attacks to earn Medals that can be spent in the Event Shop on Magic Items, resources, and other in-game rewards. It's the longest-running event of the month and a great way to stock up on items that help speed up those module upgrades.
  • Clan Games: These return during the final full week of April.
  • Treasure Hunt Event: The month closes out with a Treasure Hunt Event running from April 28 to May 3, offering special tasks and extra rewards right before the next season begins. It's a solid way to keep momentum going into May.

Should You Be Excited?

Honestly, yes. The transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 Crafted Defenses is a meaningful shift in how Town Hall 18 bases can be built. Where Phase 1 brought unique, almost gimmicky defenses like the Hero Bell and the Bomb Hive, Phase 2 leans into familiar Builder Base mechanics that experienced players will recognize and appreciate. The Roaster, Air Bombs, and Lava Launcher each address a different attack style — spam armies, aerial pushes, and ground charges respectively — which means choosing which one to prioritize will require some honest self-reflection about where your base is weakest.

The Sound of Clash season packages all of this in a fun, punchy theme that doesn't take itself too seriously, which is honestly refreshing. There's a lot going on this month, and whether you're upgrading Crafted Defenses for stronger walls, grinding out the Medal Event for Magic Items, or just showing off that punk Archer Queen skin in wars, April 2026 has something worth logging in for.
